538 charity step challenge

538 Underwriting’s Charity Step Challenge

538 Underwriting has teamed up with AXA UK Schemes & Delegated Authority Business, with a big steps challenge running throughout March. With two teams competing against each other within the team at headquarters, there’s certainly some healthy competition going on right now!

Our teams ‘The Heart & Soles’ and ‘Legs Miserable’ are trying to gain the highest average number of steps across the month to win. Raising money for two chosen charities close to the team’s hearts.

The teams have chosen Coppafeel as their first charity. This is a breast cancer awareness charity focused on promoting early detection of breast cancer for women. They are on a mission to educate and remind people to get to know their boobs in order to catch breast cancer early.

The second chosen charity is Great Ormond Street Hospital, one of the world’s leading children’s hospitals. They fundraise to enhance the hospital’s ability to transform the health and wellbeing of children and young people. All donations help to fund advanced medical equipment, child and family support services, pioneering research and rebuilding and refurbishment.

In a world where physical activity often competes with busy schedules and desk-bound lifestyles, the Charity Step Challenge stands out as a beacon of motivation and altruism. This fundraising initiative combines the power of movement with the spirit of giving, inspiring individuals to step up their fitness game while making a meaningful difference in their communities and beyond.

The premise of the Charity Step Challenge is simple yet profound: participants pledge to take a certain number of steps within a specified timeframe, 1st March – 31st March 2024 and gather sponsors who pledge to donate a certain amount of money for each step completed. This synergy between personal fitness goals and charitable giving creates a win-win situation where every step taken not only benefits the individual but also contributes to a worthy cause.

What sets the Charity Step Challenge apart from traditional fundraising events is its inclusive nature. Unlike marathons or cycling races that may require specialised equipment or training, walking is a universal activity accessible to people of all ages and fitness levels. Whether it’s a leisurely stroll around the neighbourhood, a brisk walk in the park, or a challenging hike up a mountain trail, participants have the freedom to choose how they accumulate their steps, making the challenge adaptable to diverse lifestyles and abilities.

Beyond the physical benefits, the Charity Step Challenge raises a sense of camaraderie and solidarity among participants. As individuals embark on their step-counting journey, they connect with fellow challengers, share their progress, and cheer each other on, creating a supportive community united by a common goal.

Our Underwriting Assistant Shannon Calverley speaks about why Coppafeel is important to her personally. “My Mum passed away in November 2015 from Secondary Breast Cancer after a long 8-year battle. I will forever be grateful of having her as my Mum, I just wish I had more than 18 years with her. Coppafeel is such an amazing charity, just to simply remind both women and men to check their boobs, it really could save their life’’.

The Charity Step Challenge offers an encouragement of hope and positivity. As participants lace up their shoes and embark on their step-counting journey, they not only improve their physical health but also nourish their souls by spreading kindness and compassion to those in need. We’re excited to step up to the challenge and stride towards a brighter future for all.
